Shí nalí Shawl by Tressa Weidenaar // featuring AVFKW Even Tinier Annapurna
Tressa designed the Shí nalí Shawl for our Pro-Verbial Club in January 2022. It is now available for everyone to knit, so we have created a bundle to go along with its release! Tressa's shawl features a beautiful mosaic knitting design, created by slipped stitches so you are only working with one color at a time. There are five color options to choose from - including those used by Tressa named Fox and Snakeskin. These were created especially for Tressa's design and are inspired by images of desert rocks and minerals from the area where Tressa lives. We hope you will knit this beautiful piece.
"This shawl reflects elements of my grandmothers. The crosses are often used in weaving and can symbolize the four directions or Spider Woman, the traditional figure who taught the Navajo to weave. My first weaving included crosses which helped me to learn the techniques for adding shapes into the rug. My grandmothers were weavers and I have fond memories of my great grandmother spinning yarn and weaving rugs. I opted to put tassels on my shawl as my favorite rug of hers has tassels on the corners." - Tressa
